5 top corporate event trends for 2016

2016 is certainly well underway and we have run many corporate events already, but it’s not too late to share our favourite top five event trends for the year. When it comes to corporate events, you need to strike a balance between creativity and professionalism. Here are some trends to make your event stand out.

1.    Unique venues
There is nothing wrong with a ballroom or event venue, but they are a bit “been there done that”. There is a definite trend emerging that sees events being held somewhere unexpected, taking advantage of the “pop-up” movement. We are seeing things like pop-up bars and restaurants, and corporate events are no exception. Think empty rooftops and industrial warehouses.

2.    Events with a purpose
Events need to engage and excite, but also have a bigger purpose. It is all about the experience, especially for millennials, who are now entering the industry in a big way. Rather shift your budget towards an experiential event over something with flash.

3.    Foodie culture continues to grow
People don’t just want to drink a cup of coffee, they want to know the art of the perfect brew. Events that help attendees learn something in the foodie space, such as a cooking lesson or how to mix cocktails, is still a big trend for corporates.

4.    Social media integration
It was a trend last year and continues to be one in 2016. Bringing the event into the social media sphere and giving your guests the tools do so themselves is big this year. Always include an event hashtag and include some sort of interactive experience like social walls and live Instagram photo printing.

5.    Exciting new tech
Event-specific apps and augmented reality are just two of the big tech trends for events. Virtual reality headsets like the Oculus Rift are making big waves internationally and we will hopefully be seeing more of this on our local shores.
